To Configure AOL Email
- AOL on Windows 3.1 systems
In AOL fonts are hard-coded and cannot be changed. Two options are available.
- Starting with AOL version 3.0.1, AOL introduces a new feature described
as TCP/IP Tunnelling which allows you to run any TCP/IP application
( Netscape,Eudora) while connected to AOL. For more information, go
to AOL's WWW site.
- Another possible way to read/write in Ukrainian on AOL is
to use a "workaround" (which for some might be a bit long and unpleasant).
- Start MS-WRITE, MS-WORD or any other editor of your
preference and select ER Kurier KOI-8 as your font choice.
- Start the AOL browser and get to your mail
- for each message that you assume is in Ukrainian (it will be
illegible)
- Click on the message text to switch to that window
- Select all the text in the window (Ctrl+a)
- Copy selected text to the clipboard (Ctrl+c)
- Switch to your editor (Alt+Tab, or Alt+Esc, or Ctrl+Esc)
- Paste the text from the clipboard (Ctrl+v)
- If you still don't have it in Cyrillics - select all (Ctrl+a)
of the text and select ER Kurier KOI-8 as your font choice.
- To reply in Ukrainian, use your editor along with ER Fonts and
an appropriate keyboard driver to type your answer, then select (Ctrl+a),
copy to clipboard (Ctrl+c), and paste (Ctrl+v) into AOL's "answer"
window (where it should appear illegible) and send it.

These pages in their conception owe a great deal to the work of
Matvey Palchuk's
Russification of Macintosh and
Zenon Feszczak's
Ukrainianization of Macintosh pages.
Much thanks to them.
