Taking Measure of the Holodomor 80 Years Later

Conference to highlight the latest research on the death of millions of Ukrainians under the Soviet regime

NEW YORK — A two-day conference entitled "Taking Measure of the Holodomor" featuring twelve panel discussions dedicated to exploring the various fundamental questions surrounding the Great Ukrainian Famine of 1932-33 (why, how, where, who suffered, how many suffered, who carried out, etc.), part of the Zenowia & George Jurkiw Ukrainian Historical Encounters Series, will take place in New York City at the Princeton University Club on November 5-6, 2013. Additionally, a distinguished jurist has been asked to prepare a brief on "Holodomor as Genocide: Legal Developments & Covenants" and three renowned chroniclers of the Soviet era (including a Pulitzer Prize winner) have been asked to provide ‘a larger contextual contemplation’ for the proceedings.

Each day of the forum will end with an event dedicated to commemorating or reflecting upon some aspect of the devastating tragedy that befell the Ukrainian nation 80 years ago. The Ukrainian Museum will feature an evening tribute to the 'Pioneers of Holodomor Awareness' on November 5; on November 6, the Ukrainian Institute of America will feature an evening dedicated to honoring survivors of the Holodomor.

Shown below is the complete program and roster of presenting participants. Seating is limited! All inquiries: contact the UA Historical Encounters Series Program Coordinator, Walter Zaryckyj, phone: (917) 476 1221, e-mail: waz2102@caa.columbia.edu.
