Candidates for Presidency Will Present Their Vision of Ukraine's Future at the 6th YES Annual Meeting in September
Distinguished members of the international Board of Directors of the Yalta European Strategy (YES), including President of Poland (19952005) Alexander Kwasniewski, Marek Siwiec MEP, YES Chairman of the Board, member of the UK Parliament and Secretary of State in Tony Blair government (19982002) Stephen Byers, YES founder and Board member Victor Pinchuk, met in Kyiv on June 1517 to prepare the launch of the 6th Yalta Annual Meeting.
This year's Yalta Annual Meeting, Ukraine's key unofficial forum on Ukraine and Europe since 2004, will take place on September 2427 in the Livadia Palace in Yalta. The key issues to be addressed at the Annual Meeting titled "Ukraine and the World after the Crisis" are strategies for economic recovery and the forthcoming presidential elections in Ukraine.
Preparing for the 2009 YES Forum, the Board of YES held working meetings with Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the Party of Regions Victor Yanukovich MP, and founder of the "Front Zmin" Initiative Arseniy Yatseniuk MP to discuss their visions for the future of Ukraine.
YES invited the politicians to present their visions of the key issues on Ukraine's future during a series of discussions with international political, business and intellectual leaders. The major potential candidates for presidency confirmed their willingness to participate in the 6th Annual Meeting of YES.
Participants of the meetings included YES Board Members: President of Poland (19952005) and Alexander Kwasniewski, member the European Parliament Marek Siwiec, YES Chairman of the Board, member of the UK Parliament and Secretary of State in Tony Blair government (19982002) Stephen Byers, YES founder and Board member Victor Pinchuk, investment banker Jean-Pierre Saltiel, leading expert of the region Alexander Rahr and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation president Thomas Eymond-Laritaz.
Background
Yalta European Strategy (YES, yes-ukraine.org) an international organization founded in July 2004 by the Ukrainian businessman and public figure Victor Pinchuk. YES mission is to promote a just, democratic and prosperous Ukraine, to help Ukraine's transformation and to support its membership of the EU. By organizing special events, YES brings together leaders from politics, business and civil society to debate vital issues and put forward policy recommendations regarding the future of Ukraine and Europe.
The Yalta Annual Meeting is the largest and most influential unofficial international forum on European and Ukrainian affairs, a platform for developing strategies for Europe and Ukraine. Since 2004, the Yalta Annual Meetings have brought together top decision-makers including William J. Clinton, Tony Blair, Gerhard Schroeder, Aleksander Kwasniewski, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Mikheil Saakashvili and Victor Yushchenko for frank and professional exchange of views on politics, economy, rule of law, energy, trade and investment.
