Ukraine deputy, Anatoliy Kinakh, meets with U.S. advocacy group
Washington, DC, February 2, 2007 - Members of the Coalition for a Secure and Democratic Ukraine met with deputy Anatoliy Kinakh, head of the Ukrainian Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense, to discuss the current political and economic situation in Ukraine.

Deputy Kinakh spoke about a wide range of issues including the current political happenings in Ukraine and their impact on U.S.-Ukraine and Europe-Ukraine relations. The Verkhovna Rada deputy focused on Ukraine's transition from a presidential-parliamentary to a parliamentary-presidential system. Mr. Kinakh also emphasized the importance of domestic energy saving and renewable energy technologies. Additionally, attention was given to Ukraine's economic and business development, especially to issues related to Ukraine's grain export markets and Ukraine's entry into the World Trade Organization.
Prior to his current position as an "Our Ukraine" Verkhovna Rada Deputy, Mr. Kinakh has held numerous posts in Ukraine. These have included serving as Ukraine's Prime Minister, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, and as the leader of the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
During his remarks, Mr. Kinakh noted the work of the Coalition for a Secure and Democratic Ukraine by stating that "there have been positive developments in Ukraine in the past year, and it was especially with the help of the Jackson Vanik Graduation Coalition that Ukraine was graduated from the Jackson Vanik Amendment."
The Coalition for a Secure and Democratic Ukraine is the successor to the Jackson-Vanik Graduation Coalition, and has assigned priority to promoting the U.S. Congress-Verkhovna Rada partnership, supporting Ukraine's integration into the Euro-Atlantic community, and promoting Ukraine's market reform, democratic development, and energy efficiency. The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation serves as the secretariat of the Coalition.
