President of Ukraine honored by City Council of New York

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS: The Council of the City of New York is pleased and proud to honor His
Excellency President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko for his outstanding
leadership in transformation Ukraine into real European state; and
WHEREAS: It is the tradition and great privilege of the New York City Council to recognize
foreign political leaders who have made a great personal contributions for
development of political, economical and cultural relations with the United
States of America, and today we are immensely proud to honor President of
Ukraine Victor Yushchenko for his contributions to mutual understanding
between our two great nations; and
WHEREAS: Since the Orange Revolution in Ukraine in 2004, His Excellency President of
Ukraine Victor Yushchenko has been committed to the idea of strengthening
Ukrainian sovereignty and has done everything within his power to achieve
establishment of real partnership relations between Ukraine and the United
States of America; and
WHEREAS: Throughout his truly distinguished career as President of Ukraine, His
Excellency Victor Yushchenko has achieved sincere respect within business and
political circles of the United States of America; now, therefore
BE IT KNOWN:
That the Council of the City of New York honors
VICTOR YUSCHENKO
for year of dedication and excellence as a political leader of independent and sovereign Ukraine .

Dear Gifford Miller,
On behalf of the Consulate General of Ukraine in New York let me express my deep gratitude for extremely fruitful cooperation between you as a Speaker of New York City Council and our consular organization.
Growing up in a family committed to community service, you have always known that New York's greatest strength comes from the people and families who call it home. Among these people are the representatives of Ukrainian community who appreciate newly produced city policy toward immigrants who came from Ukraine.
You always understand that New Yorkers deserve professionals who value each neighbourhood - who help New York city live up to its potential, setting an example of strength and resilience for the whole world.
During many years in New York City Council you have been a politician who did a lot for reaching these generous goals.
I wish you all the best for your further political carrier which, I believe, brings both countries a new stage of mutual benefits cooperation.

08 грудня 2005 року з нагоди Першої річниці Помаранчевої революції Голова Міської Ради Нью-Йорка Гіффорд Міллер вручив Генеральному консулу України в Нью-Йорку Сергію Погорельцеву Декларацію, якою вшановуються надзвичайні лідерські якості Президента України В.А.Ющенка, а також його внесок у зміцнення дружніх стосунків між Україною і США.
"Сьогодні ми маємо велику честь відзначити Президента України Віктора Ющенка, надзвичайно мужню і сильну людину, його лідерські якості і візію, що сприяли зміцненню дружніх відносин і взаєморозумінню між нашими великими народами… Протягом року після Помаранчевої революції в Україні Його Величність Президент України Віктор Ющенко засвідчив відданість ідеї зміцнення суверенітету України і зробив усе від нього залежне задля встановлення міцних та стабільних партнерських зв'язків між Україною і Сполученими Штатами Америки", - йдеться у тексті Декларації.
Генеральний консул подякував Голові Міської Ради Нью-Йорку за інтерес до України, а також за підтримку демократичних перетворень у нашій державі, які стали можливими після Помаранчевої Революції 2004 року. Сергій Погорельцев вручив Гіффорду Міллеру лист від Генерального консульства України в Нью-Йорку, в якому висловлюється подяка за увагу, яку приділяє Сіті Холл питанням розвитку та поглиблення українсько-американських відносин.
У цей же день за особистий внесок у розвиток демократії та досягнення в галузі місцевого самоврядування відзнаку Міської Ради Нью-Йорку отримав мер м. Мукачева Василь Петьовка.
На урочистій церемонії, що відбулась у залі засідань нью-йоркського Сіті Холу, були присутні члени Міської Ради, представники ЗМІ, дипломатичного корпусу, ділових кіл, української та єврейської громад Нью-Йорка.
