We are writing to convey our profound shock and distress concerning the horrific statement made on 4 November by the heads of the International Academy of Manpower Management (MAUP) in support of the Iranian President's statement that Israel should be wiped off the map.
President Yushchenko's exemplary record so far in combatting anti-Semitism will be reversed and besmirched if a swift, outspoken protest is not issued from the President and Ukraine's government in response.
Ukrainian-Israeli relations are at risk. Also at risk are the efforts of the Ukrainian American community to gain support for the graduation of Ukraine from the provisions of the Jackson-Vanik amendment, now coming up for a crucial vote in the U.S. Congress. These efforts have been supported by leading American Jewish organizations and this very cooperation may now be at risk. Ukraine's acceptance into various European organizational structures may also be hampered.
Everything, in fact, that makes us human -above and beyond political and economic consequences--calls for a strong, decisive and immediate response to this outrageous manifestation of hatred.
It has been said that one cannot legislate morality, but Ukraine may need to look into whether current legislative approaches can be brought to bear in this situation to prevent teaching in the future that incites racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice or whether new provisions need to be devised and implemented.

Вельмишановний Пане Президенте!
Вельмишановний Пане Прем'єр Міністре!
Ми звертаємось до Вас, щоб передати наше глибоке розчарування та занепокоєння з приводу жахливої заяви, зробленої 4 листопада цього року, головами Міжрегіональної академії управління персоналом (МАУП) на підтримку заклику президента Ірану стерти Ізраїль з карти світу.
Ваші досягнення, Пане Президенте, та уряду України в боротьбі з антисемітизмом на сьогоднішній день можуть зазнати поразки і бути заплямованими, якщо вищезгадані заяви не знайдуть різкого протесту з боку президента та уряду України.
Українсько-ізраїльські стосунки можуть стати під загрозою через такі безвідповідальні заяви. Також під загрозою можуть бути намагання українсько-американської громади здобути підтримку для остаточного скасування поправки Джексона-Веніка щодо України, особливо зараз коли це питання піднімається на голосування в Палаті Репрезентантів США. Ці наші зусилля також знайшли підтримку серед провідних американсько-єврейських громад і така співпраця може в майбутньому бути під загрозою. Прийняття України до європейських стуктур може також ускладнитись.
Все, що нас робить людяними, поза політичними та економічними наслідками, вимагає сильної, рішучої та негайної відповіді на ці несамовиті вияви ненависті.
Як кажуть, мораль не визначається законом, проте Україні варто переглянути, чи існуюче законодавство може бути застосоване в даній ситуації з метою в майбутньому запобігти навчанню, яке підбурює расові, етнічні, або релігійні упередження або дослідити потребу необхідності розробки і втілення нового законодавства.
