Address of the Embassy Of Ukraine in the USA on occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine
On August 24, 2005, we all celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, an event which embodies the centuries-old aspirations of the people of Ukraine. Today, we can proudly say that Ukraine is an established independent state.
Last year, the people of Ukraine attested to the whole world their love of freedom and commitment to democracy when they bravely stood up for their right to freely and fairly elect their government. Ukraine’s historic Orange Revolution has changed the direction and pace of the development of the Ukrainian society. It proved that Ukraine has a mature, dignified, and open-minded civil society; and provided the opportunity for Ukraine to succeed as a democratic, strong, and prosperous European country.
We’re witnessing the beginning of a new era in the Ukrainian-American relationship. President George W. Bush and President Viktor Yushchenko in their Joint Statement The New Century Agenda for the Ukrainian-American Strategic Partnership said “We commit our two nations to stand together as global partners for freedom, security and prosperity in the 21st century.”
By demonstrating their support of the Maidan, Ukrainians from all over the world contributed outstandingly to the peaceful victory of freedom in Ukraine. A special role was played by the Ukrainian American community, which has continuously and tirelessly worked to help Ukraine over the years. Ukraine appreciates this contribution and support.
No matter where we live, this is a time of hard work and great accomplishments for all of us — Ukraine’s future depends on our joint efforts. So let us together raise and strengthen Ukraine’s prestige!

Шановні друзі,
24 серпня ми разом з вами святкуємо 14-ту річницю Незалежності України — подію, яка знаменує втілення вікових прагнень народу України. Сьогодні ми маємо всі підстави з гордістю стверджувати, що Україна відбулася як держава.
Торік, коли українці мужньо відстояли своє право вільно та чесно обирати свою владу, народ України засвідчив всьому світові волю до свободи і відданість демократії. Історична Помаранчева революція змінила напрямок і поступ розвитку українського суспільства. Вона довела на практиці наявність в країні зрілого громадянського суспільства, яке усвідомлює свою національну ідентичність і шанує толерантність, і відкрила широкі можливості для утвердження України як демократичної сильної та процвітаючої європейської держави.
На наших очах розпочинається нова ера в україно-американських відносинах. У спільній заяві „Порядок денний нового тисячоліття для україно-американського стратегічного партнерства" Президент України Віктор Ющенко та Президент США Джордж Буш заявили: „Ми зобов’язуємося, що наші дві держави виступатимуть разом, як глобальні партнери з метою досягнення свободи, безпеки та процвітання у XXI сторіччі”.
В мирній перемозі свободи в Україні є визначний внесок українців зі всього світу, які в складний час протистояння продемонстрували свою підтримку помаранчевому Майдану. Особлива роль належить українській громаді в США, яка протягом років віддано і безперервно працює, допомагаючи Батьківщині. І українські дипломати високо цінують цей внесок і підтримку.
Сьогодні для всіх нас, де б ми не жили, настав час великої праці і великих здобутків, адже майбутнє України залежить від наших з вами зусиль. То ж даваймо разом сприяти піднесенню України та зміцненню її авторитету в світі!
