TITLE: Great Flood in Transcarpathian Ukraine and Hungary
PRESS RELEASE:
Transcarpathian Ukraine and East Hungary are suffering due to
a great flood already in progress for the last six days. The
water in Tisza-river rose as high as seven meters high. Tens
of villages are flooded. Some people have lost their lives in
the waters, thousands lost their homes. Ukrainian
President Leonid Kuchma declared Transcarpathian Ukraine a
basic distress zone.
This misfortune confirms yet again the great flood danger,
that exists in Central Europe (see our report here
"Coping with floods" of 20 October).
