Ukrainian-American Organizations to Focus on Youth During 2002 Summit

Recent editorials in The Ukrainian Weekly raised the question, "Where have the students and young professionals of the Ukrainian-American community gone?". In an effort to tackle this question, the Ukrainian Engineers' Society of America (UESA), the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA) and the Ukrainian National Association (UNA) have organized the 2002 Summit of Ukrainian-American Organizations and other interested parties, to be held March 15-17, 2002 at the UNA estate Soyuzivka in Kerhonkson, New York.

In addition to members of the sponsoring organizations, the summit will include representatives from the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, the Children of Chernobyl Relief Fund, the Ukrainian American Cultural Foundation, the Ukrainian American Youth Association (SUM), Plast, the Carpathian Ski Club (KLK), the NY/NJ Ukrainian-American Professionals and Businesspersons Association, and several Ukrainian student organizations from colleges and universities.

The summit will begin with a informal evening get-together on Friday, March 15, for those arriving before the weekend's main discussions. The Friday reception will have a cash bar.

The heart of the summit will take place on Saturday, March 16, when participants will engage in a series of moderated panel discussions. The goal will be to hold a brainstorming session for raising ideas and challenging current assumptions. All attendees should come prepared to contribute, as the panels will actively seek views from the audience.

Saturday will also feature an informational area with a "career fair" atmosphere, for one-on-one discussions between professionals, students, and representatives of organizations. Exchanging ideas on a personal level will provide a chance for involvement with, and membership in, these organizations. The day's events will conclude with an evening reception, including music by pianist Andrij Stasiw. On Sunday, March 17, a summary panel will review the conclusions of the discussions, before the summit officially adjourns.

Registration forms for the 2002 Summit may be obtained thru either the UESA or UMANA web sites at www.uesa.org or www.umana.org, respectively. Registration fees will be accepted at the door, but please complete forms in advance and fax them to the number on the form. The registration fee is $20 for students and $30 for professionals; the charge for those attending only the Saturday evening reception will be $10 per person. The dress code for the summit is "casual;" business attire is NOT required.

Rooms may be reserved by contacting Soyuzivka directly at (845) 626-5641. Meals are included with the room rate. Please note that the cost of meals is not included in the summit registration fee, but meals may be purchased at additional cost.

Заклик до Участи в Зїзді Українсько-Американських Організацій 2002-го Року

КЕРГОНКСОН, Н. Й. - Кілька місяців тому, дві передовиці в Українському Тижневнику поставили читачам слідуюче питання:,,Де зникли наші студенти та молоді професіоналісті, в змісті співпраці з нашими громадськими організаціями?" З наміром щоб відповісти на це питання, Товариство Українських Інженерів в Америці (ТУІА), Українськe Лікарськe ТовариствоПівнічної Америки (УЛТПА), та Український Народний Союз (УНС) спів-організують ,,Зїзд Українсько-Американських Організацій 2002-го Року", котрий відбудеться на Союзівці від 15-17-го березня, 2002 р.

Крім організаторів, зїзд включатиме членів слідуючих товарисатв: Український Конґресовий Комітет Америки, Американське Товариство Механічних Імженерів, Фонд Допомоги Дітям Чорнобиля, Пласт, СУМ, КЛК, Союз Українок Америки, Асоціяція Українських Професіоналістів і Бізнесменів, Українсько-Американська Культурна Асоціяція, Український Інститут Америки, та інші. Також будуть присутні члени декілька українських студентських клюбів при різних американських університетах.

Зїзд почнеться у п'ятницю, 15-го березня, із товариською зустріччю на Союзівці. Головна частина зїзду відбудеться в суботу, 16-го березня, у формі двох панелів із модераторами. Головна мета учасникиків в панелях буде знайти мабуть нові відповіді на питання, "як зацікавити молодь у праці наших організацій?" Всі учасники зїзду повинні бути готові ділитися своїми думками на цю тему.

Представники окремих організацій також будуть мати нагоду говорити особисто зі студентами та професіоналістими, і тим чином передати інформацію про діяльність своїх організацій, та можливо зацікавити нових членів. Після вечері в суботу відбудеться вечірне прийняття, при звуках знаного фортепяніста Андрія Стасіва. Закриття зїзду відбудеться в неділю, 17-го березня, після кінцевого панелю.

Проситься переслати формуляр факсом на число подане на формі. Реєстраційні кошти для студентів - $20, а для професіоналістів - $30. Кошт вступу лише на вечірне прийняття в суботу - $10.
