A note of thanks
"The Spirit of Ukraine" tops the results charts at PBS affiliate WNED

On Thursday night, September 7, PBS affiliate WNED ran the one hour made-for-TV special Virsky-The Spirit of Ukraine, twice. The drive began at 8 pm and "broke" every 20 minutes or so to pitch new membership sales, and to interview director/producer Myroslava Oleksiuk-Baker and her co-producer husband Don Baker. Then at 11:30 pm WNED re-broadcast the original 3 hours.
The results: this program of high energy choreography and balletic dance prowess of the Ukrainian National Dance Company, Virsky, sewn together with touching historic and culturally rooted vignettes, drew one of the highest new membership sales records for this PBS affiliate.
The station management was ecstatic, and has taken upon itself the goal of selling the entire PBS network of 400 markets on running the show at a future date.
The producers (Leonid Oleksiuk, Donald Baker, and Myroslava Oleksiuk-Baker) would like to thank the hundreds of people, inside and outside of the Ukrainian community, who told their friends, to tell their, to tell their friends...
And it was this kind of collective effort, and the foresight of WNED, which made it possible for millions of households in the Toronto-Buffalo corridor to view the talent, the history, and the "spirit" of Ukraine for an entire evening.
We are of course extremely grateful to the several hundred who also paid an average of $120.00 each to register their gratitude to WNED, and to receive their own home-library version of the video. Thank you all.
