Koliada: Winter Rituals in the Carpathians

Koliada: Winter Rituals in the Carpathian includes an exhibit of phtographs from the village of Kryvorivnia by Alexander Khantaev, video by Andrea Odezynska and an installation designed by Watoku Ueno. It runs Thursday through Sunday 1:00 to 6:00 PM at La MaMa Galleria, 6 East 1st St (between 2nd Ave & Bowery) in New York.

The exhibit opened Saturday January 15th with a talk on Hutsul koliada by Yara's director Virlana Tkacz, who for the last two years recorded the winter songs and rituals in the village of Kryvorivnia in the Carpathian Mountains. There was also a brief concert of koliadas from various regions perfomed by Julian Kytasty and Mike Andrec.

The closing event on Sunday Janaury 23rd at 2:00 PM will include a concert of Ukrainian Early Music.
