Yara Arts Group presents Video Poetry, the finale to this year’s KinofestNY on Sunday April 7th at 6PM at The Ukrainian Museum in New York. The videos will showcase the work of some of the most exciting artists in Ukraine and Lithuania today. The video artists translate the beautiful and intense language of the poets into unforgettable images, graphics and animations, accompanied by readings and music.
The videos feature Ukrainian poets: Yuri Andrukhovych, Bohdan-Oleh Horbochuk, Halyna Kruk, Iryna Shuvalova, Victoria Stakh, and Oksana Zabuzhko, as well as Ukrainian-American poet Dzvinia Orlowska and Lithuanian poets Dainius Gintalas and Gabriele Labanauskaite. Yara has had a long and rewarding connection to poetry emerging from Eastern Europe and this opportunity to showcase a new style of experiencing poetry is thrilling. Yara actors will perform English translations of the poetry.
Such innovative artists as Yuriy Kruchak, Yulia Kostereva and Olia Mykhailiuk/ArtPole have contributed several videos each. Also featured are works by Grycja Erde, Max Hoffman, Volodymyr Klyuzko and Oleksandr Usik, who directed the popular Telnyuk Sisters.
Virlana Tkacz curates the evening with poet and video artist Kateryna Babkina from Kyiv. Kateryna’s writing and videos will be presented during the evening and will include the premiere of her just completed video “Grandpa.” Yara actors first worked with Kateryna when they performed her poem "Sandman's Monolog" at the “Re-Imagine: Ourselves” festival in January of 2012. In September Kateryna took part in Yara’s presentation “Transforming Ukrainian Poetry into Theatre” at the Lviv Publishing Forum and in Kyiv at the “Ye” Bookstore at a special presentation for the Fulbright Program.
