YARA'S BURYAT EVENTS SPRING 2001



OBO: OUR SHAMANISM
at La MaMa E.T.C. in NYC
March 15 - April 1, 2001

Yara's new theatre piece is based on shaman rituals artists from Yara and the Buryat National Theatre witnessed in the villages of the Buryat Aginsk Region last summer. Located in Siberia near the borders Mongolia and China, this remote region, has preserved the most traditional forms of Buryat life. Obo: Our Shamaism is created by Virlana Tkacz, Sayan Zhambalov and Erzhena Zhambalov. It features traditional Buryat Mongolian music and performed by Battuvshin and the soaring vocals of Badmakhanda Aiusheyeva and Mariana Sadovska. Thurs-Sun at 8 PM, plus matineee Sunday at 3 PM. Sayan Zhambalov performs Buryat Mongolian shaman texts and masterpieces of the oral epic tradition accompanied by Erzhena Zhambalov, Battuvshin and Badmakhanda Aiusheyeva on traditional instruments.
