I am not a travel agent and have no financial or familial connection to any particular travel agent or agency including the ones mentioned herein. Therefore, when I recently needed round trip air tickets between Kiev, Ukraine and Jackson, Mississippi, I made a thorough search of many vendors' offerings. This search included Kaven Travel which is mentioned by David in the post that starts this thread. Kaven actually offered tickets for about the same cost as what I ended up paying. However, Kaven is mainly a consolidator and has less flexible itineraries than the company through which I ultimately bought my tickets. All the flight options offered me by Kaven either involved an overnight layover or travel on days that weren't very convenient for me.
The best combination of cheap fares and scheduling flexibility that I found was at Russia House. (Russia House has a web site at http://www.russiahouse.net./ However, I did not find it helpful in getting tickets. I found it much more productive to talk to one of the agents.)
The Russia House agent I spoke to was Ludmilla (1-800-995-5555). Ludmilla was very nice and appeared to work hard to find the best deals on two different tickets. One of the tickets she located was for travel on May 22, 2001 returning on June 26, 2001. That ticket was actually two tickets since, oddly enough, booking the international portion on a ticket separate from the domestic portion saved about $150. (Although I would prefer the entire trip to be on one ticket, both layovers connecting the two tickets were about three hours long so I thought the savings to be worth the risk. In any event, I appreciate Ludmilla's ingenuity and industry making a cheaper option available to me.) The total cost for this ticket was $935.
The other ticket she found was for travel on June 2, 2001, returning on June 19, 2001. This trip was ticketed on one ticket and cost $1058.
