I lived right off of Kreshatik for the last two years (up the hill from the McDonalds at Kreshatik metro) and LOVED the area. It is very safe. I am an American woman. My upstairs neighbors were 2 American guys, and as I was leaving the new Economic Officer from the US Embassy moved in across the street. An Ambassador (I think it was Norway) lived downstairs. I never heard of any problems in the area, and no one will know you are American unless you are loud. There are plenty of foreigners in the area.
The only area I wouldnt want to be on that street is too close to Bessarabska Market, especially in the courtyard at the beginning of the street. Too many unsavory types mulling around there, but I have had friends live there and they didnt have problems.
: I am looking to stay at a deluxe apartment around Krachitak street. Is it safe living around here by yourself? Any one suggest a really safe area around here or apartment. Do Americans get hassled much?
