Last year two young Londoners went by car from London to Chernigiv (Ukraine) - and then back west - to Prague.
Car was 12-y.o. RHD Wauxhall (Opel) (they hope to sell it here - but wheels was 4 years too old) - bought for some J250 day before trip.
None of the guys owned car in England.
They had no accidents on the road or any problems with police, customs etc.
So - seems to be doable
