Yushchenko Temporarily Cancels Visas For Citizens Of Switzerland And EU Countries From May 1 To Sept

With his decree, President Viktor Yushchenko has temporarily cancelled entry visas to Ukraine for citizens from European Union countries and Switzerland from May 1 to September 1.
The president's press service disclosed this to Ukrainian News, the text of which Ukrainian News has obtained.
This step was taken for the purpose of transparency of Ukrainian society and realization of the policy of integration with the EU, and also for creating conditions for investments and acceleration of personal contacts.
During the period of the approbation of the visa-free regime, an analysis will be conducted of its aspects so that it will be used later during liberalization of mutual travels of citizens of Ukraine, EU countries and Switzerland.
In connection with this decree, the president instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to develop the mechanism for compensating the revenues to the budget from visas.
As Ukrainian News reported previously, upon the instruction of Yushchenko the Cabinet of Ministers examined the possibility of introducing visa-free travels for citizens of EU countries to Ukraine, especially during the time of the conduct of the Eurovision-2005 international song competition that is to be held in May in Kyiv.
