Yes your quite right - I'm not an American citizen in fact - I'm a citizen of the Irish Republic and yes Irelands well aware of the misrable consequences of handguns and firearms falling into the wrong hands - namely crimminals and terrorists.
I would have thought that following September 11th - the power of the NRA to lobby against firearms licensing would be diminished considererably - no one ( in their right minds ) wants terrorists, psychopaths or any undesirable people to just walk into a store and pick up a gun. Any statute that argues against such people being prohibited is fundamentely flawed.
