It's very different - if someone will avoid a restaurant and an expensive hotel. A home stay and home meal is much cheaper and in most cases better. But he (someone) should be ready for regular size bed (not king size as many people ask), a hot water by hours (not 24 hours a day) especialy in Sevastopol, no airconditioner etc. etc. More of that - expenses could be less if stay not in Yalta but just 20-30 km away from it. Even in Yalta there is a place where you can get a lunch for 30-40 Grivnas what is $6-8 It will be good "soviat style" food.
Everything is possible, you are welcome to come and explore Crimea!
