I have driven in from Slovakia into Uzhhorod a few times and have found it quite convenient. The trick was to run up and show my US passport at the front of the line in case there was a long queue. I was always waved ahead of the other cars which had to be examined more thoroughly for contraband and taxable goods being transported.
