Imported cars are more expensive in Ukraine, their price is based on engine size, because there's an import tax which is partially based on engine size. For example in Sevastopol a new Nissan Altima with the larger engine size costs about 30,000 Euros new. In my opinion, if you can handle driving a manual transmission, buy a Volga, in early 2000 I bought a new one for 6,000 USD. I've had some minor problems with it, but nothing big. It's easy to work on and find parts for in Ukraine. Also not really a big target for thieves. There's lots of used cars available in Ukraine, bigger selection in Kiev. You also need to concern yourself with where you will park your car in Sevastopol, you can't just leave your car parked on the street! A lot of people own a little garage which might be hundreds of yards from where they live, or you may have to keep it in a "protected" parking lot. Only a very lucky few have a garage where they live. If I remember right a new Passat was around 27,000 Euros. If you want I'll try to dig up the web site of a car dealer in Sevastopol which lists prices on most foreign models.
