Yeah, you're right there's a lot of anomosity directed at Americans right now due to the affair in Mesopotamia, er I mean Iraq, thanks to George II.
About 150 years ago, there was another war, right here in my new home town. You see the Czar of all the Russsias was tryin' to expand his influence into the mediterranean. Folks back in London, didn't like this too much, it would be a huge threat to British mercantile interests, so they convinced everyone that the Russian menace must be dealt a blow.
Things moved really slowly back then, by the time Britain got her Army and Navy together, the Czar withdrew his plan, and said to himself, "note to self, expansion into mediterranean, bad idea"
So there was now NO NEED whatsover to proceed with this military plan. But proceed they did. They attacked my home, my beautiful jewel of a city, was destroyed.
The first bombardment would've come you might expect at the location of some fortress or something strategic, instead it came at night on the residential district, killin' mostly women, children and terrified old folks
We fought this war for two more years, with hundreds of thousands of dead. A generation of Russian chidren never saw their "poppy" again,
or Mama's their treasured sons.
The war accomplished 0, nada, nichivo
If you come and visit my fair city, come and see the "panorama", an enormous painting depicting the siege which lasted a year. You can visit "the british cemetary", a memorial laid out 150 years ago. But what you won't find is someone who hates you because you're English.
