: : Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can help me, I regularly e-mail my friends in Ukraine but since I dont understand computers too much I cannot seem to solve my problem. I cannot seem to be able to receive e-mails in Russian cyrillic. I am based in england and am currently using hotmail. My current methods are....I either send my letters in English or I translate them into Cyrillic, print it, then scan it, then send it to them as an attatchment. My friends do the same for letters to me, they write their letters in cyrillic, scan it then send it to me as an attatchment. . It seems that my computer cannot read cyrillic and any e-mails that are sent to me from Ukraine using a cyrillic keyboard just ends up in my inbox as a mass of unreadable didgets like this " 00Ooo00o11 1000oo100 OooO ooo11Oo1 OOO11ooo" I think I read somewhere that cyrillic cannot be sent down a phone line? I really havent a clue how to resolve this problem so any one who knows the answer please let me know. I have thought about getting a Ukrainian/russian email address but got a feeling this idea may be well off target. Thanks
: Harry, I don't have any concrete answers for you just a few thoughts. As far as not being able to send cyrillic fonts through phone lines, isn't that what happens when you visit a web site written in Ukrainian or russian? Even the very page we our using now (Bramma) has cyrillic fonts on it. Next point is , I see no reason why you couldn't use a Russian or Ukrainian e-mail adress using someone like "Rambler.ru", So I don't think your off track here. From what you wrote, I take it that you have cyrillic fonts loaded on your computer and know how to use them - first problem solved! Check to make sure you have multilanguage support (assuming you have microsoft operating system). Click START, CONTROL PANEL, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, DETAILS, and add a check mark next to the languages you want to use, click OK and OK again. My next question is who are you using for your e-mail and what browser are you using? Here is an educated guess, but your problem may lie with your e-mail/browser support. If you are using internet explorer, you will want to make sure your auto-select encoding is turned on. If you need help doing this , let me know.
: Like I said before, I have no concrete answers and I'm barely removed from being a computer Illiterate myself. I hope this is of help.
