The thing which made me angry is that people expect from Ukraine just to be the same as US or Western Europe, do not consider the fact that whole country was almost destroyed. Have to mention that economy was crashed and capital was migrated from the country to the west in benefit of the US and Western Europe. And it seems that some people just enjoy to talk how everything badly and weird is here in Ukraine not even try to think why it happened.
Yes, unfortunately, people are just beings which have to fulfill the basic needs firstly. That is why we have the situation that affordable food for people with low income can be bought not in the fancy supermarkets but from the ground somewhere on the unequipped markets.
However, you can not consider whole country basing on the abnormal facts like the stories of some one who got poisoned because of drinking fake vodka. It is the same like, let’s say, considering living in Washington to be extremely dangerous because of the case with a sniper or come to Harlem to see what is Manhattan is.
And in spite of all difficulties we are getting much better, I wish you see more of those positive changes.

: We're sharing our perceptions and experiences and those are obviously different from yours. Though that experience may be two years old, it may have some value still. And, not everyone that reads these posts is going to Kiev, where there are swanky supermarkets. Some people may be interested in other types of shopping in other cities that don't have the amenities that Kiev offers.
: Don't say that we "have no idea about" when we're describing what we have seen. Why are you so angry at us?
: : Do you think that ukrainian Spar or Billa has any different quality and service standards than those in Europe? Nowadays in Kiev is over twenty food superstores where all different types of meat cut and packaged. Some local food superstores chains were so successful that they expand to Russia. Silpo now opened in Moscow. How stupid is when people discuss something they have no idea about. If you been here 5-4-3-2 years ago don’t share your comments because the changes are so huge. And the last how idiotic you should be to buy somewhere alcohol or any food product, to try it, feel that it is fake and taste is awful and still drink or eat it knowing you will be poisoned.

: : : Thats not to say that the produce is perfect for eating, a lot of people have become ill recently because eating sausage made from illegal import of western meat waste/pet food.
