Hi Colin, I was in Zhytomyr last year for three months during US Peace Corps service. I am interested to know why you have choosen Zhytomyr, but that is not why you posted your message. You may go by train, you may also go by bus (which is cheaper and may be very uncomfortable with all your baggage). You may also hire a taxi or car (ideal if money is not an object or if you have alot of luggage)and should be able to go to Zhytomyr for about US$ 100. It all depends. If you go by train i suggest second class. you will share your bunk with three other people. you will have a small charge while in the car for sheets, pillows, and tea service (which is Lipton bags - very posh for ukraine). Customs want to know where you are staying. get travelers health insurance. prepare for no heat. i don't believe the heat will be turned on (actually i know it is not from friends) so make sure you pack much warm clothing (lots of jumpers and long underwear). Hotel Zhytomyr is very nice and is close to some discos and restaurants. if you see the american named Dave or Nikki, tell him Michael from Group 21 says hello! If you want any more info - just ask.
