The 1 hour and 20 minutes connection time in Paris is a "legal" connection but again anything can happen as you outlines in your previous experience.
Yes you can check your luggage through to Kyiv. Hopefully U.S. Airlines chapter 11 bankruptcy doesn't affect your flight.

: Hello Everyone!
: I will be leaving for Kiev (from Philadelphia) on Sept 4th with a connection in Paris. My question is: I will be flying US airlines to Paris with an 1 hour and 20 minutes to catch my flight via Ukrainian airlines in Paris. Earlier this year I had the same such flight (but through Frankfort). My Plane from Philadelphia was about 40 minites late and I had to rush to get my boarding pass for Ukrainian Airlines .. I barely made my flight. Assuming my flight from Philadelphia is on time, or not too late, does anyone see a problem catching my connecting flight to Kiev. I assume I will not be able to get my boarding pass (for Ukrainian Airlines) in Philadelphia so I will need to in Paris. Is it relatively easy to get from any inbound, international flight to check in again and back to an outbound flight. I will not have to check in my 'check in' luggage again (or least I did not last time). Of course If I miss my connecting flight I guess it would not be so terrible to spend a night in Paris. Also US airlines has filed Chapter 11. They said that I will not have any problems with my flight .. I hope they are right.
