Often, this is not much of a question because the flights to most cities are unreliable. But since you are going to/from Kyiv you are in better shape for flying to Simferopol. The question then becomes one of time vs. cost. If you don't mind paying the extra hrivni over the train cost, then you will most likely save yourself a couple of days that can better be used for your vacation. My experience is that the southern trains are not nearly as nice as the "Kyiv" trains, but since you are in Kyiv then who knows what type you might get. Since this is now the off season in Yalta, you are more likely to get a decent train, and there are less flights and probably more cancellations. If time and comfort are an issue, take a cab from Simferopol to Yalta -- the airport is further away and will probably cost more than from the train station (all cabs being equal). It can also be difficult to get/find a cab at the airport during certain times (they see much more business at the train station).
: I am visiting a friend of mine in Kyiv right now. We are planning a trip to Yalta. As far as I know this means that we either fly or take a train from Kyiv to Simferopol and arrange other transportation from there.
