I do not think it was your "fault", just experiencing something you are not familiar with, in a different language environment. I am sorry if it affected your holiday mood. But I can relate to your feeling, as I had similar very bad experience in Barcelona some years ago(not in a restaurant though)and I remember how insecure I felt for the rest of my stay there, which was totally unjustified and sort of unfair to the people there who were just great. But I reckon it's all part of the travelling experience and since then I always appreciate being with the local companion as you learn a lot and quickly this way about people and life in general in a particular country.
