: : Please provide me with the train fare and time length of journey from Lugansk to Kyiv. Is it better to travel by train or bus? Appreciate all your time.

: I would definitely take the train, much better and more comfortable than bus.
: For the same price as a small seat in a bus, can you get a real bed on a night train.
: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
: Train timetable Luhansk-Kyiv:

: Train 222D (route: Luhansk-Lviv) departs daily from Luhansk 14:00, and arrives in
: Kyiv Pass. 09:35 next day. The travel time is 19h35min.

: Train 20D/19D (route: Luhansk-Kyiv) departs daily from Luhansk 15:50, and arrives in
: Kyiv Pass. 08:08 next day. The travel time is 16h18min (it's the fastest train).

: Train 226D (route: Luhansk-Kyiv) departs daily from Luhansk 20:05, and arrives in
: Kyiv Pass. 18:55 next day. The travel time is 22h50min (it's the slowest train).
: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
: Train fares:

: It's very cheap to travel with train in Ukraine, especially if you buy the ticket at a Ukrainian railway station. It will be much more expensive if you buy the ticket through a travel agency.
: -
: Fares if you buy the ticket at a Ukrainian railway station:

: Train 222D and 226D: The fare is 36 hryvnia or US$7 in platskart ("rolling dorm"), or
: 53 hryvnia (US$10) in kupeyny (4-berth sleeping compartment).

: Train 19D/20D:
: No obshchy and platskartny. The fare is 41 hryvnia or $8 in platskart, 61 hryvnia (US$11.5) in kupeyny, or 162 hryvnia (US$30) in SV (2-berth sleeping compartment).

: Avoid "platskart", it's a car with no doors between the "compartments", so 64 people have to sleep in one room!! Kupeyny and SV have doors between the compartments, and the beds are better.
: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
: About the trains:

: Ukrainian trains are comfortable, and do usually have a restaurant car on board.

: Train 20D is the best train (it's a "skory" train, in English: fast train), especially after September 1, when it gets train number 19D, and becomes a "firmenny" (high-comfort) train.

: The other two trains (222D and 226D) are slower "passazhirsky" (passenger) trains, but they are not bad. The cars are usually older, and the trains are not as clean as train 19D/20D.

Emil:

Thanks a million for all your valuable information. The ride of 19 hours seems long, since I have a 18 hour flight from the USA. Are the flights between Kyiv and Lugansk reliable? Someone was telling me that Lugansk airport is not operating anymore. Is this true? Please help.
