I have listened to your advice and have cancelled my shipment instead I will arrange to have them deliverd by personal courier travelling to Ukraine in July. The value of these items is less than 250USD/item.

Thanks.

: Dear Max,

: With regard to opening parcels as remarked by Dan, I can tell you that ALL the parcels that I send to Ukraine were opened. It did not matter what was in it, bathoil, a sweater, or what have you. I am also very interested to know hat will happen to your computer parts. I pray that they don't hit you and hope that if so, the "price" is not to high!

: Sincerely,
: Hans

: : I agree it is a bit confusing.. This is also the same for every other country.

: : I am not sure as to what consitutes Private use.

: : I have arranged to have some computer equipment sent to me in Ukraine by post for private use but am unsure as to what is the deal here also.

: : I will not be taking these outside the country.

: : I will try and make some inquiries and report back

: : Max

: : : As posted, are taken straight off the signs as you enter the country. If you want further definition, you will need to contact the Ukrainian authorities and ask them.

: : : Max, since you are in Ukraine now - how about asking them and reporting back what you find?

: : : Otherwise, I suppose everyone will just have to use their own interpretation and common sense.

: : : - Dan

: : : : I was told by a fellow traveller that you only need to declare items over 1000USD that are nor for personal use. (This may be wrong)

: : : : Question is the 250USD per item or total of items. Depreciated value or phurchase value.

: : : : And what if it is a personal computer or a camera?

: : :
: : : : : Any item that you do not wish to take back out of the country with you should NOT be declared as you enter. If you are one of the very few they search and they find it, you would simply say it is for your personal use.

: : : : : No, there is nothing like a "gift allowance" per se. Here are the limits for NOT declaring:

: : : : : * less than 1 liter spirits
: : : : : * less than 2 liters wine
: : : : : * less than 200 grams tobacco
: : : : : * less than $250 USD (or equivalent) value of other items
: : : : : * less than $250 USD (or equivalent) worth of jewelry
: : : : : * if Ukraine resident - less than 170 Grivna
: : : : : * if NOT Ukraine resident - less than 85 Grivna
: : : : : * less than $1000 USD (or equivalent) in foreign currency

: : : : : In the event you exceed any of these thresholds, you are supposed to list all items on the Declaration form and use the Red Channel at Customs - otherwise, use the Green Channel.

: : : : : I hope this helps.

: : : : : - Dan

: : : : :
: : : : : : i'm considering taking a small personal organiser(along with some other things)as a present..the cost of this item is only about$21..do i declare it on my declaration form..or can i just walk through with it and state to anyone who may check my bag that it's a gift?
: : : : : : (also is there a gift allowance for Ukraine?)
