So what we have in France: you are an immigrant, you receive your papers (not very easy), and you speack French without any accent. Your children in the great city are considered French, but in a small town or village they aren´t considered French.

What we have in Ukraine: you are an immigrant, you receive your papers (much more easy), and you speack Ukrainian without any accent. The people will not differ your children from another in the big cities (Kiev, eg.), but in the small town they aren´t considered Ukrainians.

The main question: where is the difference?

P.S. Aleks, AMERICA IS THE CONTINENT OF IMMIGRANTS. ANY COMPARISION WITH EUROPE! Ukraine is an "old" country, it isn´t country of immigrants. A little difference with America, isn´t it?

: France treats all its immigrants the same way. I mentioned Algeria because it has a special treaty with France. Some of the people who fought AGAINST the French in Algeria now live in France or lived in France at the time of independence but decided to stay in France. Yet they are considered French citizens and Frenchmen. Any person born in a French colony even if black is a French citizen. But that is different from an immmigrant I agree.

: I would add that if you moved to France or Sweden Germany from Ukraine your chances of getting citizenship would be ten times greater in France and Sweden rather than in Germany. Sure the French love their language but once your child spoke it without an accent there would be very few problems.

: But like everywhere there are prejudices. If you were to live in a small town, city or rural area anywhere you may be seen as an outsider.
