: I am opposed to extreme nationalism. As far as nationality goes, you are whatever nationality of which nation you hold citizenship. FOR EXAMPLE, a person can be of Italian heritage but be born in a country like the United States and be an American citizen. He is incorrect in saying that he is "Italian." He is Amercian. Italian is not a race by itself. Nor is German or French or any other for that matter. But I see nothing wrong in trying to preserve one's language, history, and customs. It is a difficult situation in Ukraine -trying to change languages. The old system was bad -but at least it did not succeed in completely destroying Ukrianian langauge and culture. Look at what the Spanish colonialists did to the "indians" in their colonies. In some places it destroyed almost every last vestige of these people's language and culture, etc. Anyone follow me?
