I have to apologize -- I do usually follow suit as far as language goes, but I have trouble writing in Cyrillic here and don't want to mutilate the language by using "translit" -- so I hope you'll take my word, scho ukrayins'koyu ya volodiyu vil'no :-)

: :Because for the most part there's nothing to establish

: Тоді в чому тоді проблема? Навіщо комусь знадобилася російська як офіційна мова?

And I don't think there's any problem here with the *language*. The problem is in the approach to the question...

: :You want to close yourselves off, enforce one language and get rid of the rest

: Не більше ніж це зробилн, наприклад, Чехія початку століття або Прибалтика тепер.

Probably. It's just that I don't understand why those countries should necessarily be examples for Ukraine to follow.
Myself, I prefer, e.g., the Norwegian approach. English is not an official language there, of course, but somehow I've never had any problem of whatever kind using it in the *official* environment there. Because the attitude is positive ("if we can help, let's do it") rather than negative ("no Russian please").
But then again, you want to do it the other way -- it's your call...

: :Somehow that is not where the world is going

: Невже? Дуже цікаво було б почути, куди ж це йде світ, на Вашу думку

With a notable exception of the United States (but then of course they do have some ground to behave the way they do), people seem to realize that the more languages they know, the better.

: :and the people remain the same. Knowing only the same methods

: Sure! Один Stefan у нас знав інші методи, та й той емігрував

Very true :-)))
I don't like the word "emigrate", I'd say "moved to a different place to live", but that's OK :-)

Cheers
