I think the recent words of Medvedchuk about removing Yushchenko is nothing else but the start of struggle for power among the "oligarchs", as they become ready to dismiss Kuchma. Here it is important to distinguish the personal ambitions of Mr Medvedchuk from the the interests of the "oligarchs".
Without question, for Medvedchuk he is a much better leader than whoever else. The way he wishes to prove that is by using the commie support. Does that satisfy the rest of the oligarchs? Very doubtful. Commies are financed by Russia, thus they are nothing else but just another extension of Putin ambitions to eliminate Ukrainian oligarchy. Plus, they can objectively hurt business conditions in Ukraine by implementing their Marxist-Leninist BS.
: Українські олігархи не хочуть президентом Ющенка, бо вони хочуть і далі займатися звичайним злодійством. Вони засадили Ю.Тимошенко за грати, бо вона їм поламала схеми крадіжок. Суркіс особливо відзначився в нападках на неї.
: Медведчук не може бути кращим президентом хоча б тому, що з початку 80-х років працює на КГБ (тепер ФСБ).
: З точки зору Волкова-Суркіса, зарубіжні інвестиції не потрібні, бо це створюватиме їм особисто конкуренцію.

: : The truth is, Yushchenko is even better for Ukrainian oligarchs, than Medvedchuk or Tigipko. The last two are too weak and/or enexperienced to support positive business environment. I.e. they won't be able to maintain effective status-quo. Most likely, they will be as easily "made" by Putin as Kuchma was, which means further troubles for oligarchs.
: : Plus, Ukraine needs investments. Every stupid oligarch understands that with the flow of money coming to Ukraine, he is much better off.

What is hard to understand is why Ukrainian so called "oligarchs" decided to go with Kuchma instead of promptly removing this huge source of embarrassment. Right now their buisensses essentially face two options: (1) to be eaten by bigger Russian oligarchs with the help of Putin and Kuchma, and (2) to be investigated and taken away from them as Ukrainian politicians become more and more anti-Kuchma. Meanwhile, the gigantic scandal could very well mean the destiny of Pavlo Lazarenko for those of "oligarchs" who decide to flee from Ukraine.
