The world is not laughing at Russians, but it is laughing at those who cannot accept or tolerate other cultures. Do you know how many Russians in the U.S. or Canada have became very successfull doctors, lawyers, teachers and professors? A LOT!
Barbaric people? I don't think so. According to your logic then, it is then okay to generalize Ukrainians as Nazi-loving Jew-hating agrarian garbage. We must avoid such generalizations, towards both Russians and Ukrainians and stop seeing what we want to see all the time.
