I was born in Eastern Ukraine, but raised in DP camps in Germany and later in USA. I have been going to my village(of Lypiv Rih, Chernihiv oblast, boardering Russia) every two years since 1987. Everyone in my village speaks Ukrainian in the street. I have never heard Russian in any neibouring villages there, but in towns like Nizhyn or Chernihiv, you hear Russian a lot. But the minute I start talking to them in Ukrainian, they swith immediately to my language. Just an observation and contribution to above discussion.
