I agree with you completely on your point. There is one fact that everyone seems to be forgetting. Ever since Yuriy Dovhorukiy had been ousted from Kyyiv in the early part of the millenium (which prompted Andriy Boholyubskiy's revengeful attack), the Russians have done their utmost to annihilate the Ukrainian race and culture. For them, Ukraine had everything that they needed but did not have: a warm-water port, good resources, a good language, a long-standing culture, etc. What they are doing to Chechnya now is very similar to their struggle to eliminate us. Judging by all post-Communist occurrences, it is clear that this animosity is still present. And as usual, the Russians are slyly looking for smaller, seemingly more insignificant ways of turning the tide against us and subduing us. I therefore firmly stand against any attempt to make Russia an official language of Ukraine. We have OURr culture, we have OUR language, we have all we need to be our own people. The Russians have no need to butt into our affairs. Their continuing backwardness has prevented them from seeing that oppression is NOT the key to success and harmony. And not making Russian as an official language is in no way oppression or anything of the sort. If the Russians insist on living in OUR land, they had better learn to CONFORM to our standards!
