Wasn't meant as a slur. My understanding is that for the longest time Crimea was fully inhabited by ethnic tatars and that at some point it became part of the empire and that Kruschev gave it to the ukr. republic as a gift in tribute to the 300 Per. union.

The amusing part to me is that when ukr went independent, there were russian advocates saying that krym should return to russia, the ukrainians of course said no. And of course neither side contemplated giving it back to the tatars. And the same goes for the language arguments ... i doubt if there's a movement afoot to make tatar an official language and if there is then i bet the vast majority of people arguing to make russian official are not also arguing to make tatar official as well.


: They WERE giving money, then changed their mind and gave only a little money and clothes and food, as far as I know it's everywhere in Ukraine. Yushenko, said 6 weeks ago, "everything's fine in the government", do his statements reflect reality now? Why is this the "Tatar south", I think you intend that as a slur, so be it....
