I'm not concerned with "the people who benefit", I'm concerened with the people who suffer, in this case children, babies, and their parents. Maybe there is a cause and effect relationship, but nothing people here (including myself) can do about it. The only reason you or anyone else heard about the story involving babies ih Kharkiv is because of outside Western involvement.

"You lived a sheltered existence in America, cocooned, even when sent off into war"

Not really, officers are somewhat "sheltered" in the US military, but not lowly enlisted "men", like I was. I was 18 when I went overseas, I will carry the physical and emotional scars forever, I was never sheltered. I take it you have never served in the military yourself, otherwise you would never make that statement.

"c) "so what" attitude is stoicism not disregard"

It's stoicism if it's disregard about your own pain, but not when it's someone else's. Believe me, people here are not quiet when something bad happens to them, but if it's someone else, oh well...

"d) "but I'm telling you children are dying here, children are being sold here, children are being starved, abused, on a massive scale and it seems to me like no one really gives a damn." - you could be talking about anywhere in the world - welcome to the real world where the only predator of man is man."

Maybe, but I'm not somewhere else, I'm here, and I'm trying to get someone interested in this, but guess what? no one cares, oh well.....

"e) time and time again, as soon as discussions stop being Ukraine bashing you duck and run for cover"

I'm not very interested in the affairs of Sudan or Iraq, and I don't think you are either. You are feeling defensive when I write something about Ukraine that is not full of "Glory and Good Cheer". Kind of like me telling you, hey did you know Ivan beats his children", and you reply, "so what so does Achmed". Is it more important for you to maintain a positive image of Ukraine by simply not discussing details of life here? It seems like it is. So what if 300 babies were taken from their mothers in Kharkiv, there's a new art expo in Lviv. I would really question your priorities
