The constant argument for closing Russian schools and/or for making them Ukrainian-speaking is "the lack of Russian-speaking teachers". I am sorry but this is the lamest argument I have ever heard: In Ukraine about 90% of the population can speak Russian (while about 50% are native Russian-speakers). It is just very lame, agree with me. As far as Tatar schools, I agree there should be Tatar-language schools to be made available in Crimea just like there are Hungarian schools in trans-Carpathia as well as Polish schools in Volyn', as guaranteed by the Ukrainian constitution. However, keep in mind that Russian speakers account for 30%-50% of the Ukrainian population (depends which poll you want to believe), therefore most linguistic minorities schools are Russian, and problems are more evident, and you're right that makes the other linguistic minorities' demands less visible.
: : I have nothing against Ukrainian being the official language of the country. I ackonwledge, accept and embrace that and have absolutely NO PROBLEM with it (even though I also believe that Russian should also be a second state language. But I have already addressed that in my previous posts).

: Well, this is where we differ in viewpoint.

: : However at the same time, I do beleieve that government services should be provided to sizeable linguistic minorities.

: And it is hence - interpreters are made avail. In so far as no funds for Russian schools - all of a sudden no funds - what happened? no budget cuts, etc. And why are you not stumping for the Tartar language? just the Russian language? A tad bit discriminatory isn't it on your part? Why are there Russian schools in Crimea and no Tartar schools? Only just recently, they started the only Tartar language radio station in UA - and that was post Yushchenko becoming President.
