The orange Revolution came from Kiev and the West, I admit that. But let me tell you something: I was in Ukraine this summer and I talked to people there in Kiev as well in the West, East and Crimea. ALL of them were sick and tired of Kuchma's B.S. The only thing is that Kiev and the West so a different solution than Crimea and the East. Due to the higher national awareness in the West, Yuschenko was supported. However in the East where pro-Russian sentiment is high (and it is just the way it is, and trust me nobody will be able to change that there, just like trying convince West Ukrainians to love Russia, it's impossible), people were afraid not so much of Yuschenko (who's actually one of their own, from Sumy) but more from the people close to him who just refuse to understand that Ukraine is a multi-cultural as well as multi-lingiual country (the hardcore nationalists). Who are know trying to make the East and Crimea pay. I am from Kharkov myself and my views are more pro-Russian than yours. However I have supported Yuschenko because I did not want the country to be ruled by a thug and that Ukraine will become a Russian vassal (my love for mother Russia does have its limits). And what do I get in return? Transfer of many contracts from Donetsk, Kharkov and Lugansk to Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk, attempts to close Russian schools in Crimea, total Ukrainization of court proceedings as of this month (even New York has an option of doing court proceedings in minority languages, in Russian as well - Russian speakers compose 11% of the city's population). This is why I don't like hardcore nationalists, they do not realize that the country is multicultural as well as multilingiual with variety of opinions - and they try to impose their own will on others - not unlike in the Soviet days when everything was forcefully Russified.

: You both agree on the point that "nationalism is a waste of time"??????

: where do you think the pro-democracy movement arose which contributed so greatly to the Orange Revolution? Not from Crimea, that is sure. And not from Russophiles.

: and MTL - when I tried to write about "life and death" issues - you ducked out as soon as it no longer was centered on Ukraine bashing - so don't even try this tactic. In regards to the posting re: W. Ukrainians - you did not deny it when it was written and did not counter it - you let it stand, unchallenged. In fact, it still stands unchallenged by you!
