Orange Scent Still in the Air
The Ukrainian Government, shaped by Orange Revolution, has not lived a year. In this case, they usually say that revolutionists squabbled and ask: Will you go back to the central square, gentlemen? Will you make a permanent revolution as great Trotsky willed?
The answer is unexpected: Yes!

As a witness of the events, I dare to suppose that most people made it to the streets last year not because of Poroshenko or Zinchenko. They did it not for Yushchenko either, though they shouted out loud, “Yushchenko! Yushchenko! Even not for Yulia Timoshenko (what a seditious thought!), how good she be in all respects.

I dare to suppose that most people went to the Maidan Nezalezhnosti for freedom. The energy of Kyiv’s central square was so boundless that every participant of those memorable events thinks he can blame any other participant for the betrayal of the ideals.

So everyone who was at the square can accuse each other of the wrong understanding of freedom only because everyone understands freedom in his way and is anxious make use of it in their own selfish ends

All other things are about politics. Any political figure in Ukraine has to act bearing in mind that “you won’t trample freedom” and the more a functionary tries to “trample freedom” at his office, the quicker he will be dismissed. After all, they have to tackle state problems without the granted right for corruption, censorship, coercive measures and other useful inventions that helps a bureaucrat to solve the tasks efficiently.

The mood of the Maidan is still in the air not sodden by the bourgoise perfume yet. As a matter of fact, recurrent overthrows of authorities, which we are taught to be afraid of, are nothing but democracy. If democracy is debugged, authorities are overthrown every four years at polling stations. If the electoral system is dubious, authorities are overthrown at squares or on behalf of squares. The stability in the country is achieved not by the eternal rule of president or prime minister so-and-so but the absolute conviction of any premier or president that will be replaced the moment he swerves from ideals.

We should not be afraid. One day, Ukraine will have politicians who will be aware of the need of the privatization but the kind the Square will like. Reforms are also necessary but the ones that the Squares will approve of. You can earn much money too but in the way the Square will be willing to view it as yours.

One day, Ukraine will have politicians able to rule considering the interests of hundreds different categories of citizens. Even existing politicians may learn how to behave themselves and forget that if you are appointed a minister you are not a tsar. No matter how many times the Maidan will have fire officials for them to understand that they are hired servants here, the Square will do it.
