Interesting but you fail to understand that internal divisions have cost Ukraine's freedom time and time again. Just a couple years ago there were more than 200 political parties in the Ukraine. What the hell for did they need that many? Monopoly is the answer but you people arguing each other is the joke of the world. Orange Revolution- what a farse. Putin must be laughing up his sleeve.

: : It is in the Ukrainian's blood that he or she knows what's best for the country and everybody else is wrong.

: ? Hogwash. There is no genetic basis for what you are describing. Are Ukrainians opinionated, passionate, dynamic, free-thinkers rather than apathetic mindless drones? Yes. This is a good thing. This is our strength which has benefitted us and helped us naviagate through dark and perilous days. The people and leaders did not decide to pursue China's solution to the Mongol hordes and build a huge wall to keep out invaders but instead maintained their openess and tried to stand their ground and fight. Which they did - with the result that the hordes did not reach as far as Western Europe. Had assistance and help been provided from the West, perhaps Kyiv Rus would not have fallen. Is there a lesson from history relevant for today? Possibly.

: : In Warren, Michigan, there are 2 Ukrainian banks side by side, 2 cultural centers side by side, 2 senior citizen complexes within a couple miles apart Why?

: what ONLY two? There should be more. Multiplicity and diversity work to advance progress not impede it. Under your logic, there should only be one restaurant chain, one bank conglomerate, one supermarket chain, one church, etc. in this world and not the diversity which exists. After all, we are all one single species - are we not?

: unfortunately, religion has not always been a jumping off point for coming together but has instead creating lines of division, whether between parishes, types of religion, etc., and has been used to reinforce an "us vs. them" mentality. There have been more deaths from Wars of Religion in all of recorded human history than from Wars of Nations.

: : I know they love to buy expensive cell phones and cars on a $150/month salary.

: This shows such meanness of spirit that I do not know how to respond. After decades of being denied consumer goods and experiencing shortages Westerners cannot comprehend - (well stocked Kashtan stores were only for Party bigwigs or foreign tourists) you want to deny them their right to purchase quality items without their going into credit nightmares like Americans? You speak from under the influence of the green eyed monster.

: I came across the following -
: "A lesson in Ukrainian unity: Community raises $4 million to expand school, December 4, 2003 BY MARY OWEN" http://www.freep.com/news/cfp/4/tskul4_20031204.htm

: Not too shabby.
