Ukraine will probably continue to deliver Russian Gas to gas-hungry folks in Hungary, Romania, former Yugoslavia and beyond. If Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus could also persuade other countries to join their economic space, such that Ukraine doesn't feel Russian pressure then Ukraine would probably commit herself to this group and get the benefits. The EU has become an opportunistic group. Because Turkey now carries Caucasian oil and borders Syria,Iraq and Iran it is being offered membership talks in spite of human rights violations and curbs on free speech. So much about the EU's claims to stand for democracy
