: Russia has stunned Europe with the recent announcement of a deal with Germany instead of Poland to deliver natural gas through a new pipeline. This new pipeline will bypass Ukraine, which is how Russia currently delivers gas to Europe, a very lucrative business. Unfortunately, Ukraine currently receives a lot of free gas as payment for this transport, and uhm even um "borrows" a bit as well. When the pipeline is completed Ukraine will not have this option. Ukraine has been trying to buy gas from Turkmanestan, but Russia is trying to monopolize this market, and earlier in the year there was a big scandel when Turkmanestan claimed Ukraine cheated them out of money owed from a previous deal. Even if Ukraine DOES make a deal with Turkmanestan, the gas has to be transported through Russia, in Russian controlled pipelines. Meanwhile GazProm (doncha love that name?), has said they're going to raise the price Ukraine pays by a factor of four! This will more or less wipe out Ukraine's economy, for example the entire chemical processing industry will be eliminated, costing jobs and foreign exchange. This is a pending disaster that just WILL NOT GO AWAY. WAKE UP UKRAINE!!!!!
