I don´t understand why you are being silly and petty. If my parents were born there in Ukraine and i was born here, then i am first generation american, right? or am I off by one. The 4th or 5th generations you refer to have at most a teeny teeny minority that still think of themselves as ukrainian anything so ít´s pathetically obviously that this calling 2nd and 3rd generation american-ukrainians 4th and 5th generation is some kind of cheap slander from your perspective. I guess you´ve had enough of the diapsora call you a kook that you are morally justified in throwing some crap back at them.

: Were these Ukrainians or Americans of Ukrainian origin on the Jersey shore? Were they not third or fourth or fifth generation Americans?

: I would think that students from Ukraine who are fluent in Ukrainian and who carry Ukrainian passports would be those who are defined as Ukrainian. The children of the Diaspora have to come to terms with that.

: On the other hand, I guess anyone can call and consider himself what he wants.

: We at USA/USA follow an academic schedule and so have no choice but to hold our welcoming dinner in late August. Students arrive in NYC before the academic year.

: Getting everyone or someone here into New York City during the academic year poses more difficulties for us.

: Second, students depart for Ukraine in June via New York City. This is the time of our application season and it is a very hectic period for us.

: More importantly, our students are on very different wave length from American students of Ukrainian origin. Some or other zabava of the Americans of Ukrainian origin is likely to interfere with any event our brainy kids are likely to attend. Most American events of Ukrainian origin are now held in suburbia leaving few but the aged to attend events in the East Village of New York City.

: We may hold a Thanksgiving Dinner this fall. But then Americans of Ukrainian origin will justifiably be with their families.
