I think that the ROC/Moscow alliance arose from the ROC pursuing the only action which they could under Soviet rule in order to ensure the Church's survival. Why they continue to do so to this day is the real mystery - but this unholy alliance is is revealing about the realities in Russia, the Church and human nature. Although we live with changing seasons, even the change of day into night, people seem to be inherently resist it even if it could lead to their betterment.
