That's a huge shortcoming. It's like St. Paul said:
For you are all the children of God by faith, in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized in Christ, have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek: there is neither bond nor free: there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you be Christ's, then are you the seed of Abraham, heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:26-29)
Or if you prefer:
Where there is neither Gentile nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian nor Scythian, bond nor free. But Christ is all and in all. (Colossians 3:11)
: That's what you get for believing in a Jewish understanding of God - you are told to deny your own forefathers and exalt others.
It has nothing to do with denying your forefathers. As for the dangers of exalting yourself, Jesus addressed that one himself:
Because every one that exalteth humself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (Luke 14:11)
