: Unfortunately, when there is a large event, it rarely, if ever, is a good one. The disaster at Chornobyl illustrated to the world what would happen once we let the genie out of the bottle- and it was not a beautiful sight. But, like all things, there is a yin and yang, in that the reaction by the human beings who could help control the conflagration, the men who could do something about the disaster did something about it - only to lose their lives to save the livlihood of their children. It was nothing short of heroic- not the kind of heroism you would see in the movies- but the kind of heroism that calls for the ultimate and untimely sacrifice.
: Chornobyl was indeed the event that will be on our minds as we prod reluctantly into the next century. There will never be another Hitler or Stalin- we are not that dumb- but a nuclear disaster we shall face every day of our lives.
