: Well, I'm a woman, and I have no sympathy for Medvedenko. The point is that Ukraine really needed him at the European Championships this summer, he promised to play, the federation payed the Lakers the necessary insurance, and then Stas backed out ten days before the championship began. If that isn't stabbing your country in the back, I don't know what is. I also hope he's happy with his money, 'cause it won't buy him love.

Reply: "Ukraine really needed him at the European Championships this summer". Very often our Ukraine needs people when they achieved (I am not speaking about Medvedenko's game technique at LA) smth without Her help and patronage. Did Ukraine need Medvedenko and others who are not currently there, when they were in Budivelnyk? Did She support or understand that basketball is an intelligent game and not a zbihovys'ko veletniv at Palats Sportu? Intelligency needs money and attention as any other kind of activities.

"...he promised to play,..." I will add: with the conditions to be discussed. Can he afford to change his mind? Of course! He is now in the position that he can decide. The Ukrainian side asked,he has the Ukrainian surname, he replied if the conditions had changed he absolutely could take his words back.

"the federation payed the Lakers the necessary insurance". This is a technical point. The federation can sue him now and he'll fulfill all the necessary details to cover the damage. This
happens almost everywhere esp at the Western sites.

"...then Stas backed out ten days before the championship began. If that isn't stabbing your country in the back..."
Does the Country know the details of this case?
Did the Country while in Kyiv ever ask: "Slavko, where do you live, what you earn, may be you need help or smth?
Did the Country ever expect that Slava could refuse?
Of course, not. The Country expects that Slava and others will sit in the US and po "pervomu zovu
partiyi i naroda" will play for blue and yellow colors. Come on.Please, give him an opportunity to decide which and whose values to defend and whose contracts to except.
Slava did a step, tried to show everybody that he can survive and mean smth. The Country is angry, but forgot where "ty ranshe byl".
Life is... what happens when you are making other plans.
This episode was a plan, blaming and calling smb a traitor with such weak arguments is an empty sound, knowing that Mr.Medvedenko now is in quite a position to decide by himself what to do.
Halya.(still hasn't changed her mind to have a cup of coffee with "a traitor").
